PageSwipe is a book product built on the premise that the library you already own should be the easiest thing in the world to record and the most natural thing to share. You point your camera at a barcode and the book is in your library; from there it organises into lists, into the reading you are tracking, into clubs you run with other people, and into a public page at your own handle — one connected library that works the same on a phone and on the web.

The founder owned more than two thousand books and was keeping track of them in an Excel spreadsheet. Every new book was another row typed by hand, and the spreadsheet was no use at all standing in a bookshop trying to remember whether he already owned something. The reading apps that existed did not fix it. The ones that were easy to add books to treated your library as a private list nobody else would ever see. The ones that tried to be social turned reading into a feed to perform in, and charged a subscription for the privilege.

PageSwipe is free for readers. Not free-for-now, not free-until-you-hit-a-limit — free. There is no reader subscription, no paywall, and no feature held back for a paid tier.

That holds because of what PageSwipe is: a two-sided network. On one side, readers catalogue the books they own, build lists, run clubs and publish libraries. On the other, authors and publishers want to reach exactly those readers. The value of the network is the readers and what they share, so charging readers to take part would tax the one behaviour the whole thing depends on.

So the money sits on the side with the leverage. Revenue comes from the distribution a real network of readers creates — book-native placements, and author and publisher reach — never from the reader’s pocket. The more readers catalogue and share for free, the more valuable that distribution becomes. Free is not a promotion here. It is the mechanism.
